The J.L. Weigand, Jr. Notre Dame Legal Education Trust is a
private, independent trust established in 2003 through the will of J.L. Weigand,
Jr. When he died on March 22,
2002, Mr. Weigand left most of his
lifetime earnings to establish the Trust.
The Weigand Trust, a Wichita based 501(c)3 Operating
Foundation, provides the nation's largest legal education scholarships to some of Kansas' brightest
and most deserving scholars. Additionally, the Weigand Trust provides career services activities for the
scholars.
Our Mission
The J.L. Weigand, Jr. Notre Dame Legal Education Trust was established to
"actively promote excellence in legal education and to encourage the most
scholastically qualified students who are long-term Kansas residents to remain
in or return to Kansas to practice law."
Scholars Council
The Weigand Scholars Council is comprised of several key Kansas businessmen
and lawyers. The Scholars Council reviews the
application
packets and provides
input to the voting Trustees on candidate selection.
